Clown loaches

There was a 5" one I wanted about 3 months ago. I asked how much it was, thinking like $25? Guy says " that is $59.99". I was awestruck. I just don't see why there so much money, when they are as common as they are. But, I want them for my tank! Cannot afford $10 bucks a fish, sorry!

Just because something is a commodity does not mean it will come cheap.. simple supply vs demand. Considering this species is not commercially bred in captivity, all specimens are wild caught- from halfway across the world.

Not new here bottom feeder, just can't afford stuff when brother in law doesn't pay his rent and his part of electric. I would be fine with $5 a piece... I just think $10-$15 is too much

Hehe, I was just kidding. I found it a bit funny because there are people here shelling out hundreds/thousands for fish. :D

Ok for something wild caught there sure does seem to be 100 in every pet shop. There's no reason for them to be that much.

Agreed they do an I am not one to spend 100s on something that may die the next day

I really don't think that $10 for a clown loach is a bad price as long as it looks healthy when you get it. There are too many instances where stores do not know how to properly feed them and they become emaciated. Compounded with the fact they are scaleless and more susceptible to ich, if I find a healthy clown loach anything over an inch or two in size I usually snatch it up.

Clown loaches also grow very slowly. In Michigan you could get a 2.5 inch specimen for about $10. Think thats bad look how expensive roseline sharks are. $30 for three inchers.

The reason for the high price is due to the fact they are indeed wild caught. As for larger specimens, the price reflects the slow speed at which they grow. I have 5 loaches that are 2 years old and in a standard 150, not one is larger than 7 inches and they are fed constantly.

Roseline sharks are $20 a piece for 2" here. And I found 1 7" one at another LFS for $15, my friend bought it, and it died the next day. That's just my main problem with the pricing. Most fish stores overprice there fish and have terrible warranties on them and puts you out of money.

i saw a ad in Kijiji that sold like ten adult loaches for like 500 bux!!
