I want to keep and raise my Jardini but I want him to have some kind of tankmate(s). I realize he'll probably kill off all my cichlids so I can sell them if I have to. I want something in the tank with him though. Whether it be Dats or perhaps a peacock bass or something. How about a Giant Gourami? Aren't they pretty tough? I know, what about a Black (Labeo) Shark???

It's a 265g- 7' x 2' x 2.5' btw.

everything is possible as long as your patience and money wont run out.. lol just try any fish you want to put in your jar and if your jar likes it, it wont kill it.. otherwise, we all know the ending.. lol

that's the spirit bro.. i gave up mine after he killed his first and last tankmate.. the pleco.. lol figured plecos have armored scales yet he was still able to kill it.. so if i give him another tankmate, i would end up wasting money.. lol

I'm a nub and so far my Jar's are fine though he bit them at first..... I took him out a few times, brought him back in, and eventually he got better. Keyword: be creative! Block his path from biting, add some fish that'll fend for themselves without killing him, etc. Mines is at about 6" though I heard at 10" they'll go crazy. I have him with two silvers now, and they look great.

how big is your jar now? or have you not purchased one yet? im currently keeping my jar 6in ish with a bunch of other fishes and they are living fine

In the end, it depends on the individual fish. Most stories you hear say that jars will kill anything in the tank once they get to a certain size. I wouldn't say that is a true statement.

I would try keeping a fish or fishes that are already larger in size than the jar. Not just bigger than food size, as big or bigger than the jar- give the fish the best chance to fend off or fight back if the jar gets aggressive. Bottom dwellers aren't a sure thing to live either.

Your tank is large enough to handle this. There should be plenty of room if they start picking out territories.
