My comment about free handling wasn't meant to be a direct analogy to keeping snakes communally. I just meant that people will do as they please regardless of what is safe.
Yes, you always run the risk of injury whenever you put two snakes together but there are things you can do to minimize the chances, such as feeding the female heavily prior to introducing potential mates. I just don't understand why you would want to risk it on a daily basis. My amel monocled goes absolutely nuts when it's feeding time and viscously bites anything that smells like rodents, including himself.
Many years ago I kept two equally sized copperheads together, separating them only for feeding. After they both finished eating one day I returned them to the cage and left the room. I returned a few mins later to find one of the coppers half way through consuming its' cage mate. Not knowing exactly what to do I opened the cage and lightly struck the aggressor on top of the head with my hook handle and luckily it started to regurge the other snake. Thankfully the other snake survived but I'm not too sure that would have been the case had I not intervened. Needless to say, that was the last time I ever housed multiple animals together.
