They are beautiful! I've always been fascinated by cobras but I'm too chicken to keep anything venomous.

I would not suggest it to just anyone. Also, I am pretty sure that hots are illegal to own in CA.

yep and that is just the av without the doctors bills and the other medicine for pain, infection, swelling, etc.... a bite can easily cost up to $300,000 if not more.

Here are some shots of the cobras I just picked up at the Columbia show over the weekend. I know these are some horrible shots but it was very difficult trying to keep them both under control while I got pics. better shots to come later but I was just too excited to wait.

I do not keep a vial of Antivenon because it is up to $6000 per vial and I would need upwards of 30 vials to treat a bad bite. Furthermore, AV can go bad in as little as 6 months. I do have a bite protocol and I have Miami's Venom 1 on speed dial. They are the closest place that carries the Thai Red Cross brand of AV that I would need for these little buggers. I could have a few vials transported to the hospital here in less than hour. Also, you need a prescription to get any AV and most doctors will not administer anything from your own personal stock since it is too much of a liability (especially if the vial has expired).

this is a heated topic among Hot keepers but I could go on and on as far as why I choose not to keep any AV on hand. I realize that it is a risk and I am okay with that.

congrats on getting some beautiful little dudes. You have guts for keeping them. And if you get bit at least you know who and what bit you. That means they can have it ready right after speed dialing them right?
