Thats an awesome looking net of fish. What a fun day, i love days like that. thanks heaps for sharing best thread in ages!

I hate dobson flies!!!! They look like hell spawn and are all over the place in my area.

The rainbow darters are gorgeous!

Looks like a blast. You definitely got some great specimens.

Did you take any home???

I didn't. Some of the other guys did.

cool, dont take too many though ;)

There was one dude that I felt took too many. Other than that everyone else seemed to have more respect. No game fish were taken home. It's illegal to do that unless those are caught with a hook.

Yessir! I had my Nikon D300 in the water, something I swore I'd never do. Sooo glad I didn't fall.

You got some great fish! Most of the darters have already lost their color down here. By the way, your bug is a crane fly larva, not a dobsonfly.

Looking forward to doing this again of course! I still think the larvae is a dobsonfly based on the similarity of the head to the adult. Crane fly is smaller and looks like it has a smoother body.

The rocks were noted! I'm going back to get some next time I have a chance. They were all flat and smooth, just waiting to be used for a hillstream loach tank in my future! :D

Dobsonfly larva has massive jaws, three pairs of legs, and thread-like gills along the sides: http://marlablair.com/hellgramite.jpg

Craneflies get big (I've found them over 3" long) and always have those distinctive welts around the body. Like all true fly larvae they are legless.

Hey, if you get the chance, you should come to this meet in Tennessee: http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=184570. The fish diversity down here, especially on the Duck River, is amazing. I think I may be the only experienced seiner going so far, so it'll be good to have someone else down who knows what to do!
