Collecting Panama-Knife fish

Knife fish are nocturnal, so don’t expect them to be active during the day. Check with a flashlight at night to see if it is out foraging. This one has elongated body and looks like an electric eel.

I used this piece of hollow wood so it can "hide" but i still see my gymnotus. Theyre mostly blind and see with electricity so it wont know if the glass is see through.

It works really well for mine so far

Yes, knife fish is nearly blind, and use electro navigation to find their way around, but still use eyes to sense day and night so as to be active at night.

It's easy to underestimate how much effort is required to keep fish *alive* on collecting trips.
Although having fish spend too much time in a cooler, is a challenge.
Large Water changes every few hours are a necessity to keep the fish alive, so I usually do all my fishing the last day of the hotel stay., even though I pack a battery operated air pump, and a regular one to be plugged in the wall over night, as part of the collecting kit.
