If you're ok with just one fish then that definitely would be the best route for you, imo. If you want multiple fish then your best bet is to listen to alexmuw. Shell dwellers would be fine in that tank and so would a pair of SA dwarf cichlids like rams or appistos. However the problem you may eventually run into with any of those is the potential for breeding. With everything you'll have going on with studies I would think that breeding fish would be something you wouldn't have time for or want to mess with. So in that regard a single fish I think would be best.
As for some of the "harsh" comments you've received...well unfortunately that seems to be a growing issue here, imo. You know what guys, it is totally possible to give out good information without coming off as a snob. Who cares how old the guy is or that he's in college...he came here for advice and help. There's not a single person on this or any site who saw their first fish and automatically knew everything. We all had to learn in our own ways and we were all beginners at one time.
thanks for the advice and reasoning Jason_S
and thanks to you other dudes too. i really do plan on getting a nice 125gal + next year when i have my own house. so there's the future to look forward to.
i think im going to look around the site for people from West Virginia. id be more then happy to give one of them away to someone who can care for him. the money that i spent on him dosnt matter as long as he dosnt die a death that wouldnt come naturally.
