ive just got some at 1.5" about 15 days ago but im curious to know when there collor will appear, if their diet to get color needs betacarotene?? im new to this species, there actual color is brown gold, thanks for any advice.

they may have a little drab color to them now but your not going to see the real nice colors until 4-6 inches. as far as feed i just fed all mine high protein cichlid pellets with treats of bloodworms and krill.

For their size and diet requirements, I recommend NLS 1mm cichlid pellets...it's great for color. I crumble up Massivore Delight pellets for my baby Festae too.

you can tell by looking at there front bar it goes upward from the base of the fish and forks off to make a y shape near the head. the tailspot is up high on the tail fin and not directly in the middle like a mayan.
