Color change for my female black arowana!!

I started with 2 pairs of black arowana and this is the pair I kept. The female has changed color lots in the last couple months and she is alot more darker then the male. Does anyone know if color change has anything to do with sexual maturity? They have been doing the mating dance in the last few weeks and seem like they want to do business but its a 450 gallon community tank so I don't think they will be mating anytime soon unless they were in the tank by themselves. They are about 24" long and 4yrs old.

How is it that you are able to indentify it as being female?

Males have bigger jaw structures then females as the males are the ones that hold onto the eggs. It was really noticeable when they started to put on some size! I also had the help from the fish store owner who has over 30 plus years experience in fish keeping.

I've heard that too, but it might be unreliable, considering there's always someone griping about "PLJ" (protruding lower jaw).

Cool, good luck I hope she drops eggs for ya. Did ya ask the fish store owner about the color change?
