Colorful fish for 4 ft tank suggestion

If you want to go American cichlids there are loads of smaller peaceful ones, electric blue acaras, electric blue jack Dempsey, fire mouth, salvini (although savage), or angel fish would be ideal as a comm tank with a few schools of large tetras:

^^very true I should have omitted them as I have had them in cichlid comm tanks twice over the years and yeah they are nothing short of savages... but they are so beautify I keep getting them.

Why I sold mine to a guy with an aggressive cichlid community, took over the tank within a week apparently.

Jewel cichlds and Severum too.

Jewel cichlid pairs are said to be maniacal with fry. I would tread with caution

Usually community tanks don't do well with fry anyways.
