jason whats your experiences with the brazilian rainbow boa? researching as much as I can but cant find out too much. perhaps you could PM me? would like to tak to some one with experience on them.

If thats the case then the worst you can do is suggest putting one in 3FT vv, even suggesting you can really is bad. Im not having a go. Im just saying dont give him ideas. You could squeze an anaconda into that size viv, should you? No.Would you?I hope not.

Jess what are you keeping your hermans tort in out of curiosity?

My 7 year tort is in a 5x2x2 and goes out and has run of the whole garden whenever its warm enough, and through the summer when its warm enough he's in the shed with a large heat lamp (The shed's hmm I dunno, 6x4x6) through the night or when its really to cold to go out.

Whenever he goes into the garden he's zoom round it (and we have a large one LOL) a couple of times and when it starts cooling down he'll find aload of mud and dig. Deep : P.

TBH Bruce I love tortoises, but I doub't whether I'll keep one again after Harriet, they are one of the animals (funnily enough) that in my own experience, just don't make good captives. When I say good captives I mean, they require so much space and hate being confined to vivs. :)

Yeah I heard they were nippy (to rep LOL) but could you tell me anything more about them in your experience, as adults, do they seem to tolerate handling well say a common boa or royal python does, or do they dislike it and become quite skittish while being handled? How active are they? Would appreciate as much as your willing to share on these. :)

Many people keep brazilians in 4x2x2s or even 3x2x2s other than larger individuals.
Columbians a minimum of 36" x 18" x 16" I think.
Yup in the main, young ones are nippy, but they mellow out quite well in general as they age (of course remember the difference with individuals... don't blame me when you have a snap happy adult!!!)
The main thing with them is not to let them overheat, they will not stand temps above 90 degrees F, and giving them the correct humidity.
These are awesome snakes. Jess message me if you have any questions regarding the brazilians if you want.

Thanks Davo. Not sure I quite agree with housing an adult BRB in a 3 foot viv though. Least the length of the snake.

well for an adult male that gets to say 4.5-5ft (larger end) it still gets 6ft sq floor space. These are the kind of sizes most breeders would use, and how much the snake utilizes. They aren't monster sized snakes (all relative I suppose) but yes there may be some giant 7 ft individuals, but columbians tend to be even smaller than brazilians on averages, 5ft maybe for a female (larger than males).
Remember these are semi arboreal snakes so a bit of height can be good for them also.
Personally I like the 4x2x2, but as your in the UK if you don't mind them, the really useful boxes have a size that they do great in, and are great for humidity.
