Columbian rainbow boa

yes but thats like giving me 6sq foot of space (im 5'2/3) I know snakes are not humans and vice versa but I dont think its very fair to keep an animal in anything smaller than theyre length. Snakes are active and WILL move more than theyre length if given the chance, yes you can house one in a 4xx2x2 but should you? No. Not morally. As you said they should have climbing space so 2 foot high really isnt adequate. Breeders are different. They generally need to cram animals in what they can as they need all the space they can get. As a pet..you should really give them more space, they WILL use it. We say pet shops are bad for setting examples? Breeders are no better if because they manage to breed a BRB in a 4 foot viv people think "I can keep one in a 3 foot viv cause they BRED theirs in a 4 ft.." its really not fair on the animal. Come on, in all truthfullness, if given a ROOM a BRB would use it once settled..think of that and a 4x2x2 viv sounds abit what, inadequate?

Boa constrictor are different than Epicrates cenchira...

Anyway, it is really a matter of perception. Like with my boa, the guy I got him from would not sell him to me until I got an enclosure at least 75% of his total body length.

The other day, I was talking to Jessica about this, a enclosure builder replied to my e-mail when I was asking for a price quote on 5' and 6' cages for a female boa I am looking at, and he said to buy his 4' cage... and he kept and bred 8' and 9' boas in 4' cages. I just terminated our business discussion right there and then.

jason whats your experiences with the Brazilian rainbow boa? researching as much as I can but cant find out too much. perhaps you could PM me? would like to tak to some one with experience on them.
  2. sorry girl,i had to work all day without the computer.mine was only 2 foot or so,i kept lots of moss in it and i think i had it on peat for the substrate.large water bowl, half the top covered.its hard to balance humidity and warmth without drying out and if to humid you get pests or mold.even when i had the humidity going good it would have shed problems and i may have not been feeding it as much as the species needed for proper growth.i didnt mess with it for too long because when being held, all it did was want down,it would just look at the ground and seem flustered.i tried this hundreds of times so i dont know if others are like this but it would eventually just cock up and rapid fire on my hand and forearm.
  3. the fact is,i live in an extreemly dry place, this was long ago and i was not as experienced so i struugled with th balance of climate.at the time wanted something that would be more chill so i traded it for a red tail boa, could have sold it for more but it helped out a nice little shop and i got a wonderfull snake in return, heard it bit the crapazoids out of them too.:D

haha cheers mate. well as it stands this BRB might not be happening for me now. dog went the vets and has a tumour so £300 odd for that so BRB might be out of the question for now. will have to wait and see. they sound like not very good handlers!

as for boas? pahh i have too even breath slowly so i dont get bit by mine

congrats....what does that have to do with this thread? haha! i have kept guyana rainbows at 5' in 45 gallons comfortably. like davo said they are semi arboreal. I.M.O. height is more than anything. they seem to prefer to be perched on a branch rather than be on the ground. height is more of a factor with rainbows than ground area.

4x2x2 is what i'd suggest as a minimum personally. They like their enclosed spaces for security.
