Really that low?! I dont know to much about the fishes natural habitat, but when I was growning out channel catfish I kept the at 86 and with my p bass even a little higher than that. I guess it would make sense though becuase of its closesness to the cool ocean waters....

Brackish water is generally colder than the lake waters because, like catfishluver said, they are mixing with the cool sea waters.

And, think of temperature like this, the higher the temperature, the faster the molecules in the fishes body are moving, the faster the molecules are moving, the faster they grow, and the faster they age and die. So within the tolerable temperature numbers, the colder will make your fish grow slower and live longer and possibly healthier.

Hmm intresting theory, it would be very intresting to reasearch more about it. Ha i am really excited about raising these guys! Has anyone taken them to full marine before? I think i remeber there is a member here his username has something to do with columbian sharks, and he succesfully did it. I think he even had a spawn, but the eggs were inviable.

I have never taken them full marine. But i do seem to remember someone mentioning it, I'll let you know if I find who it was. Good luck! Keep us posted!

I just picked up 3 more so now I have a pack of 5. Do they still school when they are larger?

Mine always have when young, but less as they grow.

im going to get rid of mine as i dont want to set up a large saltwater tank in the future. Or can i put him in my 55 cichlid tank? Would he survive? Im going to acclimate him now!

He will last for a little while, but once he is a foot long or so he will overpower everything!

Yeah a couple years ago, I kept one in an african cichlid tank. It probably wasnt the best setup, but he was fine. I actually lost him when he jumped out,no issues with any other fish. He was only about 3-4 inches so I was soon going to try to take him to brackish. My new ones are living in luxury with a species dedicated tank all to themselves hehe
