I second the other responses. Get a bristlenose. The 30 gallon will only cramp the pleco and agitate him. He'll throw his weight around and live in a constant state of stress. I keep albino bristlenose and they're great--very active during the day, don't grow over 3-3.5 inches, and do a killer job on algae, especially brown. They also can adapt to a wide range in ph. Great personality and the males are cool looking. Some brown bristlenose males may grow to 4 inches but are slow growers. Do what's best and find the pleco a bigger home. good luck
