common pleco size

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hey i did not think it would get that big. i was planning on getting rid of it when it got about 6 inches, but since it was winter when it reached that length, i am planning on getting it into a larger tank if i can find someone in the area that has a large tank and wants a pleco that big. i might give it to my friend when they build their pond in their backyard. the pond they are planning is 4 ft across and probably about 3 ft deep or something like that.

first, i found this website after i got the pleco. second, ive had common plecos before and this is the first one that has survived to grow this large, the other 2 that i had did not grow over 3 inches and died of unknown reasons. third, i have already started trying to contact someone with a tank or pond large enough for a large pleco like mine that might want to take it off of my hands.

i have been looking for bristlenose plecos around here and for some odd reason nobody seems to ever have them. are their any other plecos or other algae eaters that do not grow so large that i could keep in my 30 gallon. would a wild sucker fish work fine?

I can only guess what the mysterious death was????
lol done im goin to wash my hands and eyes.
Your a pleco serial killer, so i regard you as highly as saddam hussein!!!

wow that is a little overreacting. i admit in the beginning i did not do enough research on them. and when i got my current pleco, i did not expect it to grow about 5 inches in 9 months. it is healthy for now and it will do fine for another month or two until i can find someone that has a big enough place to put him.

I'd say you've done nothing in the way of research because any site worth its salt will steer noobs in the direction of bristlenoses. Two or three months???? put it in the freezer and save it from impending doom.

ok another reason i decided to get a common pleco is bc my friend has a common pleco, and his is only 5 inches and its about 4 years old in a 40 gallon tank. the reason it will take 2-3 months is bc i dont have a car and i would need to take the pleco over some way and it is 30-50 degrees outside. i also started doing serious research after i saw that my pleco was getting monster. i know it was poor planning on my part but it is how it is and i am trying to do something about it now. at least i put it on here now and people csught this problem now and not held off another 4-6 months.

we'll see, im going to look around my area before i put it on here, to see if anyone that i know or my friends know that would want it. if i put it on MFK then i would be looking for anyone around western Omaha, Nebraska that could be willing to come pick it up.
