Snappy was found in Lake Oswego, Oregon (far from native range) as a fifty-cent piece sized hatchling. After about four years in a fishbowl, he was given to me. As a science teacher and animal lover I have had more than my share of creatures dumped on me, but I really enjoy this guy. He now resides in a 300 gallon tank in the lobby of our school. He happily gobbles up turtle pellets, earthworms, scallops, or anything you give him.

Snappy's shell is about 7" across, maybe 9" long. He weighs about 6 pounds. Standing on his hind legs he can stretch his neck to reach up almost two feet!

I only handle him to clean out his tank, take him home for summer vacation, etcetera. He isn't aggressive but he claws at you if you're not careful.

I took a picture of the tank, but I didn't like the glare, have to try again. And yes, 300 gallons is a little big, but the tank was free. Actually, it is on a semi-permanent loan from Oregon State University. This spring I plan to get some bass, bluegill, etcetera to add.

I've been lookin for a baby snapper for my pond outside for ever!

He looks awesome, any chance of some tankshots? A 300 gal seems a little big at this stage.

At 4 years old he should be about the size of a dinner plate Bruce. A 300 gallon is perfect for him. Good job!
