Community Cichlids (there are a few)

My Laetacara dorsigera were effing evil.

Really? The ones I have and have kept were very mellow. I have 4 now 2 males and 2 females in a planted tank with Ram, Angels, Ottos, Dwarf Loaches and Glo-Lite tetras and they never bother any of the other fish. They only ever interact with each other. That's interesting, how many did you have and what was the ratio of males to females?

Notes on above, the op asked for smaller cichlids and severum and chocolates and a couple others up above are not smaller cichlids. I would add the biotodoma cupido and the other biotodoma "w" something. My cupids are really great community fish and just do a bit of flaring with each other but have never bothered another fish. Some places say they are very aggressive and either I have 5 that just don't match the write-up or the person writing doesn't know what they are talking about. They are supposed to max out at 5 inchs. Mine are just shy of a year and 2 of them are nearly 4 inches.

That was me that originally suggested those fish but that was before I relized the OP was talking about a 55, I thought he was looking to start a new tank and was looking for suggestions for cichlids that would get along in a community setting. I retracted the suggestions in another post.

I do really like the biotodoma cupido, its coloration reminds me of a keyhole cichlid only a little more colors. (keyholes were another option that I was considering)

I also REALLY like the sajica. But i thought that the t-bar was in the archocentrus genus? is Cryptoheros now?

Nanos are great. I've got a colony growing out in my 29g (hoping to get some pairs, they've just started pairing behavior) and just moved some of them to my 180g.

I was going to suggest firemouths until i saw that there are guppies in the tank. I don't know how you feel about putting Africans in the tank, but Kribs could be a good addition.
