Compatibilty?

Im not liking my angels as much as I thought I would and was wondering what anyone thought on this. I really like my german blue rams, and have 2 large males at the moment and will be getting 4-6 females soon. What I want to know is do you think I could keep the blue rams in a six foot (120-150g) tank with "blue neon" gymnogeophagus. There would be around 8 rams, and Im thinking around six gymnogeophagus. And just so I can make a more educated decision how would angels work with the gymnogeophagus as well?

Think the tank size and temperments would work, but from what I understand gymnos need cooler temps. I don't have a lot of experience with gymnos though, so I could be wrong.

Geos get larger than rams do..they are typically non aggressive but I don't think you would have to much trouble. As far as the angles I don't see you having an issue there either

The angels may get a little stressed from all the activity in the tank. If you have to turn the temperature down for the gymnos the angels will be more susceptible to disease. aside from that the gymnos and rams should be fine together.

Ime gymnos can be pretty feisty. The gymnos will probably get twice the size of the rams, but in a 120, with lots of hiding spots it may work. Gymnos will live a longer healthier life if you give them their cool down period.

The species was gymnogeophagus rhabdotus, what do you mean by cool down period exactly? So far it sounds like I may try it for a while and see what happens, fishing out the gymnos if all doesn't go well.

In their natural habitat, the water temp drops to the 60's in the colder months. They have been observed to not be as healthy when this change in temp is not duplicated in the aquarium.

The Rams require high temps and the Gymnos prefer low temps for a period. I would not mix the two.

That is interesting on the temp change how exactly do you all that keep gymnos get your water temperature that low? I personally couldn't get my tank that cold unless I put it outside during the winter. Right now the tank sits at 84degrees unheated although its summer so I expect at most a 5 degree fluctuate throughout the year here in FL.

So you have a basement? Garage? Leave it next to a open window in the winter time? I know there is something called a chiller but i have no idea how that works. Even in Florida you should be able to get the temp down in the winter time.
