Complete and total noob, need lots of help!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yep, they are on of the shops on our list that we are going to go visit. Do you have a lot of experience with them and their rays? I havent been there in about 5 years since picking up a new tank to use for my turtles back then.

They've moved a bit further East on 22 since you were last there, then. I've not purchased rays from them but I go in there maybe every 3-4 weeks so have a reasonable idea of what comes and goes.

Key is to see the ray eat and try to get one that isn't too skinny (a skinny ray looks like this: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=352237 you can see it's not got much weight on the body).

If someone here like Vamptrev or FlorenceBigFish has pups when you're looking for stock you'll probably spend similar money after airport-to-airport shipping but get rays you know will eat right away.

Yeah, we have a couple stores on our list so far to go check out, will check their bellies for redness and look for skinnyness and ask them to feed. So far the top two stores look like Shark Aquarium and Absolutely Fish since they are both pretty quick and for the most part reputable stores. Any experience with Absolutely Fish, or any other places that have or can get rays that you would recommend? I did a few searches on this forum lookin for LFS that users on here from Jersey recommend, thats how I found Absolutely Fish.

I haven't been to AF in years and couldn't say whether they'll have rays or not. At a guess, if they do, they'll be expensive.

http://aquascapeonline.com/ is a vendor here and their storefront is in Belleville NJ. If you plan to visit the store, call ahead to be sure someone's there - when they first opened it was a bit hit-and-miss although perhaps that's changed now.

You can also get hold of TheFishJunky http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=313 and ask him what rays he can get you, I know someone got some Retics from him that did well.

There are other non-storefront suppliers nearby and of course the MFK classifieds can be great if you're patient, it really depends what ray you decide you want once you're ready to house them.

Yeah I've emailed AF asking for the stock or availability of their rays, and pricing. Just waiting on a reply now. Have Aquascape bookmarked but havent contacted yet. Shark Aquarium has had 5-6" Motoros for $99 dollars so far thats the cheapest Ive found. I will check out TheFishJunky too. Thank you so much for all the help so far!

I feel so impatient. Wish I could just move right now and get everything else we need bought so I can start working on this!
