1.) Download Image from HERE

2.) Save it to computer and then open it up in Photoshop CS or CS2

3.) From there please apply a 'radial blur' with the settings at:

Amount = 100
Blur Method = Spin
Quality = Best

Using a stop watch / ps timer see how long it takes to apply this filter

Lets see your computer performance. I'm researching dual cores / single since dual doesn't help much if multitasking is not in progress.

Please list your system, cpu details, amount of ram and the time it took for the test

Sorry, no CS here...but if it aids in any comparisons

Adobe Photoshop v7 - 1:25.08

Dell Dimension 8400
Pentium 4 3GHz HT
1GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 6800 256Mb
Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 160GB HD
XP SP2

FWIW...Corel PhotoPaint v12 - 1:19.67

And just wondering if you've read through these:

http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/318243.html
"All Photoshop features are faster on a multiprocessor system, although some can take greater advantage of the multiprocessor system's capabilities."

And curious if you've ever tweaked around with this:
http://www.acropdf.com/photospeedup.gif (Freeware prog available at same site)

Also, have you read through this pdf:

OK, Jay I just found out my pc SUCKS :)

1:50 in PS CS2 using Pentium 4 processor 2.8 GHz 1 gig ram

100.7 seconds
so that would be what?

60 seconds = 1 min
40.7 seconds left over...

so 1 min 40.7 seconds

PSCS
Pentium 4 3ghz
512mb ram
200gm 7200 RPM hard drive

nothing fancy really

So processor is more important than RAM!!! I have twice the ram, but you got me beat by .2 mhz and you shaved 10 secs off my time. Also My harddrive is 7200 RPM too, so the "write to temp file" speed is the same. That is important too, PS uses a big Temp file, the bigger you make it (adjustable in PS) the faster it works. Mine is over 100mb.

Hm.. Looks like one of my milk droplet pictures.....

P4 2.4GHz
1500mb DDR333
7200rpm C: 30gb, 10 available. (D:180)
XP user
Radeon x800pro 256mb, not sure if it matters though. Just bragging.

While doing the test, FF, MSN, DC++, PS, AOL, iTunes were running, so i'm not sure if it's a fair test.

2 minutes blank nevertheless. Maybe a little better after a reboot.

actually, there's alot of factors.

Back when i was studying this for print, I was always told to have a certain amount of room on the page file...

general rule of thumb is have disk space available twice the size of the image you are working on. So if you're working on a 100mb image (which I often do) have 200mb available for the scratch disk.

I have 50% of RAM free for photoshop processing. I'll eventually upgrade to more RAM, just can't afford it currently. So i'm stuck with 512 for now. Now, if I were working on my laptop, which i'll test tonight as it uses a celeron M processor and has 512mb of ram, you'll notice a huge difference probably.

On my harddrive - which is 200gb there abouts, i've got 165gb available. Told you I hardly use this machine ;)
