Yea thats the usual sign of eggs. My pair just laid a batch a few days ago and again there are a cloud of fry in my tank. I think there are still a few loners from the last batch swimming around. Its fun to see at night the female will gather the fry up and sometimes you will see old fry being mixed in with the little wigglers.

MY cons never showed any lip-locking or much displaying or anything. They just spawn. The first time I put them together, they had eggs within hours.

Yeah, I was out of town at the Shedd for a couple days, I'm sorry. I came back, and realized I left my light on, so the sides of the tank were covered in algae. So I took a designated toothbrush (I prefer it to scrubbers) and began to rid the tank of algae, and the male con popped out of nowhere and very viciously bit my hand, drew blood, and needless to say, scared me quite a bit. If there wasn't eggs, there most definately is now. The male is guarding from anything that comes close, I even noticed him attacking sinking food pellets. Rushing them, not even biting, just ramming them, and then going away again. I don't know when the eggs were laid, but I am definately expecting to see wrigglers tonight, or tomorrow at the latest. As soon as I see them, there will be pictures.

Dont get bummed if you dont see the wigglers right away, as they may be kinda deep in the cave. You may not see anything for a week, and then all of the sudden, you have free swimmers.

I had my con pair in a 29 together, and didnt realize they spawned untill the fry were almost free swimming. I had put in a few 72 hr weeks at the plant, and was relaxing on a sat afternoon when i noticed they had been hanging out at the same spot in the tank for days. Then, after a closer look i saw them. I immedeatley started crushing flake into a very fine dust, and fed the fry with a turkey baster.

Now some of the male fish from that batch are larger than their mother, as i have them growwing out in a 55.

Have fun with your little science project.

That's what I suspect is happening. I haven't seen anything, and I know for a fact there were eggs in there. They're still sticking around, taking turns feeding while one defends, all that sort of things, so I doubt the eggs got eaten or something. There should atleast be wrigglers by now, so I'm suspecting they're deep in that cave (it's like 5 inches wide, 2 inches deep, and about 6 inches from front to back :nilly: ).
