I have a really nice 12 inch plus male odoe pike in my 125g. I can get hold of a 10 -12 inch female at a very reasonable price. Two large odoes in a 125 bad idea right?

They're schooling fish. Just make sure you have dithers and room for them to get away from each other if they do scrap.

I am aware that they are schooling fish. My fear is two is a long distance from a school and they can be mean. Tank has plenty of dithers.

I'd do it without hesitation.

Might toss them in a smaller tank together first though, to remove the established one's dominance as I'd assume the one with home field advantage would be territorial.

Alright if the female is still available next week I will give it a try.

Do you have a back-up tank in case?

Plan to quarantine before adding?

Matt

I am lucky that I do have some options to move her around if it doesn't work. Unfortunately I don't have the means to quarantine a fish yet of this size. I use a 25 gallon cube as my quarantine tank and right now I have two panda uarus in there, which are in rough shape unfortunately.

If she looks iffy at all it is a no go (not the best practice, but I am pretty honest with my self at least in evaluation). Or I might just get too nervous to try this one right now.

No-brainer. Absolutely try it if at all possible. Have you read my thread on Odoe breeding in this forum? Sounds like an amazing opportunity to observe large fish parenting.

Go for it.
