Yes one could do all that. but the idea was to do it with mostly things i already have to save money that i dont really have lol.
If i was on the ground floor of my building (which i will be at some point) i would have no hesitation whatsoever to do the 48x48 design and only have to purchase the new bottom glass. I mean if i had the money to go out and buy all the glass panels new exactly the size i want and so on, believe me i would do so and be going to a much more crazily huge design, but im tryin to work mostly with what i have.
As for having the thickness of glass needed...i already do. As long as my tank is not going to be any taller than the origional 55 gallons are, then the glass is thick enough.
