Connecting 2 tanks

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would never seam two tanks together... but I own my house so I have a bit more than just a security deposit to loose (This is why I would never be a land lord).

If I were going to put two 55g tanks end to end (In my garage!) I would just drill a couple matching holes in each of the ends, put a couple 3" ~ 4" Uniseals in then use a pair of 3" ~ 4" clear pipes as tunnels.

With two tanks seamed together any irregularity in the flatness of the stand or any movement in the stand is going to rip those two tanks apart. Uniseals should allow for some minor movement without self destructing.

I also own my house tank would sit on an 18 inch thick concrete pad.
Moving should not be an issue.
The tunnels would not work due to the fish that would be in,the tank.

Putting a center brace in would be very important. Glass thickness is determined by height and unsupported length.you could make a tank 50ft long using 1/4" glass as long as you didnt go over the same height and length spans you have on your 55gallon I would be more concerned with the flex in the bottom tearing apart. I would put a brace inside the tank across the bottom seam.

I did have some drawings of a sires of two or three giant fish tanks in a room linked up by open shallow water trenches that would be as wide and as deep as a normal 20 gallon fish tank but the water trenches would be anywhere from five to 20 feet long allowing the fish to move between tanks. This idea would be very interesting to see by having two or three different themed tanks such as a rock covered one or a plant covered one. Or a saltwater reef one made out of all fake corals and things to seethe freshwater fish would react to it.
