Connecting my two 55 Gallons

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
new pics??
Interested in trying this idea out for myself

If i would have thought of that i would have done it when i had several leaky tanks and little money i built some new stuff but broke the bank even though most of my materials were free.

Sorry, my camera is broke.
Even if it wasn't, I'm pretty busy with another tank and some other matters and it's just a hassle to take the lights and stuff off for a pic. Because of the shape, all of the wires and stuff criss cross making it hart to reme them around.
Ill get some shots up eventually, but it may still be a while.

7 months and still no above pic?

you sure they are connected?
:grinno:

you must have some serious lighting to get in the way for a pic

You also have to keep in mind the fact that I am SUPER lazy.

Ill see if I can take some cell phone pics though.

:WHOA: there's honesty, thanks ... :D

Ok I overcame my laziness (lazyness)...not sure, also just got a new phone that can take and send pictures so here it goes. Sorry but phone + bad lighting = grainy pictures.

*Turns out I don't know how to move the pictures around, so they are in the right order, but not below their corresponding paragraphs, just pretend they are right below the paragraph that corresponds. (is that enough commas for you)

This first one is an above shot of the corner. I put these metal strips across the top in a triangle. They are screwed into peices of scrapwood from the stand that rest up against the tank edges and hold tight. This is the way I fight bowing. It works great and you cant see it from the front. I know it looks ghetto in this pic, but thats because it is. I kind of meant to class it up a little, but I'm scared to change anything because it works so well and I only notice it when I'm doing matenence and stuff.

This is a close-up on the corner. The pvc is part of the sump plumbing. You can see the rough cuts I gid on the black plastic edges. I had to take these off the connecting ends of the tank. This was my second bigest problem because they are glued on and impossible to ate off. The one running left to right was cut with a knife in a rough sawing fashion. I wised up and cut the other with a dremmel, it was easier, safer, faster, cleaner, just a superior method. I just siliconed the glass together. Oh, I also attached a peice of copper angeliron to the outside corner. You can kind of see it, it only runs up three fourths of the way.

I've got seven cons in it right now. Heres one. Oh and babies but the picture is too low quality to see them.

Is this good enough. If I could get pictures from the outside corner I think they would be way more helpful, but my phone cant see through walls, sorry.

Is your vent capped on your DIY overflow? Im pretty sure I have read you should't cap it, as it might not restart correctly after a power outage. I keep mine from making any noise by placing a ball valve on the pipe just before it flows into the wet/dry. Then I tune the valve.

Awasome setup by the way, I wish i trusted in myself enough to do this, Mad Props.

Im not quite sure what you mean. Is the vent the thing that goes up on the outside of the tank. If so I have to keep it capped or the siphon will stop, in fact that is how I stop the siphon, I just take the cap off. I really don't get overflows completely, but I built it from a picture on this website and what I'm doing seems to work. In a power outage, my system will just shut down and my sump will take up the slack. I just figured your supposed to set it back up yourself.
Thanks for the compliment. To tell you the truth, for the first couple of weeks I could barely sleep because I didn't trust it, but now I've seen that it works just fine and the gods are smiling upon me for now.
