I know fresh water stingrays and piranhas are illegal in nevada. but what kind of fines are we talking about if someone does get caught with such fish? are the fine all the same for all illegal fish? like if you were caught with an asian aro or giant snakehead? all i see people say are "heavy" fines, but how heavy? lol

From the Nevada Department Of Wildlife site:

transportation or possession of restricted species is prohibited (NAC 503.110).”

To discourage the illegal stocking, the word is that NDOW is pursuing a new law that would make introduction of “injurious aquatic wildlife,” a felony with civil penalties of up to $250,000.

Slightly older NV state code:

Fines and Penalties
According to Laura Allan, executive director of the Animal Law Coalition, there are numerous fines and penalties for individuals found to own exotic pets that are illegal under Nevada law. Civil penalties ranged from $200 to $2,000 in 2008, but there are criminal penalties, as well. Those include injunctions against individuals that possess the animals and seizure and custody of the animal.

i have a feeling that you will spend more money on a lawer and taking time off work than the actual fine. the question should be "do i want to complicate my life?"

holy cow 250,000 fine damm thats steep,,thats mad, wonder what the fine would be like if you had E.T. stayin in ur house

considering ET would probably get you get injected, inspected, detected, infected, neglected, selected, and anally probed (it's not just aliens that enjoy that, the feds like to enter your anal cavity too!), a fine would probably be the least of your worries.

BAHAHAHA

To the OP: even though most illegal wildlife laws in this country are BS, I personally wouldnt break one... and I kinda resent those who do... because when you keep an illegal animal, especially posessing prior knowledge that it's illegal, if you get busted, you just give the feds more ammunition to ban more animals elsewhere.

This was a good post :grinno:

The amount of damage that these illegal species would do to the environment would far surpass any fine they could slam ya with.
