Shouldn't be any damage done by an illegal species if kept by a responsible owner.
Most are illegal due to irresponsible owners.

What part of "illegal" don't you understand  You wonder why heavy fines are imposed, it's because people like you trying to buck the system and everyone pays. You don't do something illegal just because you can afford the fines.

It's like the military, when one screws up, everybody pays, now get down and give me 20. The mistake people make is in thinking they are special, you are not special. If the guy down the street messes up YOU pay! Solution is make sure that guy doesn't mess up. We live in a people society not a person society.

in maine its up to situation. In your fish tank its a slap on the wrist and they take it to the nearest state aquarium. In your pond on the other hand they no hold barded nuke the pond. Then charge you the clean up fee and other costs plus a 10,000 fine per species found.

People like me? What people who respect the laws and do not own illegal fish?
Tell me once where I said HEY LOOK AT MY SNAKEHEAD ITS SOO COOOOL ILL JUST PAY THE FINE WHEN CAUGHT DURHUR.

considering ET would probably get you get injected, inspected, detected, infected, neglected, selected, and anally probed (it's not just aliens that enjoy that, the feds like to enter your anal cavity too!), a fine would probably be the least of your worries.

plus you sit on the Group W bench with all the other criminals. Father stabber, etc.

I was in the local LFS and made a passing comment about wishing I could let a wels cat go in my pond. Well aparently the lady behind me was an off duty forest ranger and man did she light into me about it. acused me of already having ileagals and wanted to know my last name and where my pond was and everything. needless to say im more carefull now as to who I say stuff to and when.

Maybe it's just me but in general I don't just follow a law because it exists. I follow it if it doesn't infringe on my personal liberties and I live in a responsible manner which doesn't infringe on others' liberties either. I get involved with politics as much as I can to make an impact towards changing unfair laws, but there's only so much a single person can do against the leviathan government that we've grown. At some point, a little civil disobedience is in order.
