i would think the fines are more of a slap on the risk. and chances of getting caught is pretty slim. i would assume if anyone getting illegal fish its like asian aro's or rays or something exotic. just be responsible and careful. lots of people keep illegal fish and illegal things and commit illegal things. if u dont do it someone else will anyways so what the heck right. heck id love to get an asian aro if i can get my hands on one. dont care if its illegal....just real talk.

if you cant show it off or brag about having it, what's the point?

BAHAHAHA

To the OP: even though most illegal wildlife laws in this country are BS, I personally wouldnt break one... and I kinda resent those who do... because when you keep an illegal animal, especially posessing prior knowledge that it's illegal, if you get busted, you just give the feds more ammunition to ban more animals elsewhere.

I agree

Fines and jail time will depend on what law you are violating.
Local/state law? Like Oddball posted, $250,000.
Have a federally protected species (Asian Arowana in the USA)... might as well have a freezer full of bald eagles and sea turtles.

Getting caught is MUCH easier than 99% of the population thinks. And it's always the cocky owners who think they are above the law that fall the hardest when the time comes. Say the wrong thing at the pet store, post the wrong thing on the web.... enforcement is watching.

Can still show it off online Just better makes sure it looks like your not in the united states with a little poking around.

The site has members that are known DFW agents. They do IP checks so trying to hide your location doesn't work on the 'net.

To get a warrant all they need is a valid reason, posting on the web is valid enough I would think. I know they have target words that they use a computer to search, here, facebook, twitter, any social media. How do you think they find those that tag themselves in riots?

Let's face it, the ones that really want some of these rarer fish, need the set ups to keep them, Monsterfish Keepers just sort of draws in that sort of hobbyist. It would make sense to patrol these posts for those that do other than lawful things.

If you live according to your rules, not the law, makes you an outlaw, not a criminal. Breaking the rules set up by society makes it criminal.
