That's good to know. What symptoms do fish have when these levels are too high?

they die lol. Sorry i dont know i never had a problem with heavy metals ,but i know that inverts/snails are less tolerant than most fish

I have to agree, I don't thing fresh water fish have issues with the amount of copper or any other metal that can leach out of pipes here in the U.S. It's just not a significant amount for concern.

I'm using this method with a few additions on my 300gl.
3 stage chloramine/carbon filter
70 gpd
oh and a filter Lol (Kaldness media sump)
My water goes to the lawn as well.
I think I am happier than my fish, I almost checked out of the hobby due to tank maintenance. Best 180.00 i've ever put into the hobby. 50% water changes twice a week got old after a few years.

I would like to do a drip on my 180 also. Couple issues. I rent so what kind of damage does this show on your water bill because my Landlord might not be too happy if its a significant increase. Secondly, My tank already has a DIY PVC over flow for my sump so would I have to make a overflow in the sump for the dripping water?

You'd want to drill your sump for a drain. Not that difficult at all, but a little scary the first time you do it.

My water bill went up $15.00 a month when I put my garage fish room online. I'm dripping around 50% tank volume daily on 7 tanks totaling about 700 gallons. Most are growouts and fry tanks so I'm running about double what I would run on a regular system.

My electric bill went down though because I switched over to sponge filters for most. After all things considered, my whole room cost around $1 a day to run. Not too bad for zero nitrates and no water changes.

Thank for the quick reply man!. Didn't think about drilling, My sump is a outdoor pond anyway so its plastic & will be quite easy. For 15 dollars a month he might not notice I guess. I mean I do 30% WC twice a week now so he hasn't said anything on that yet. Definitely a project I will do.
