Well by now he has 'moved on'

Another useful tool, the "last activity" display. The OP made the thread and signed of an hour later. So your assumption that he has "moved on" appears to be way off:screwy:

well good riddance than egotistical prick

Here is a good example of someone with a decent size post count, yet post content is lacking in any real value.

sorry about that outburst but hard day at school and what he said kind of rubbed me the wrong way

Apologies for my initial post. I think I hit the red wine a bit hard that night. A warning kids - dont drink and post - it makes one very opinionated. Perhaps I need to build my own web site and link it to here. Didnt mean to put down Cichlids, they are very popular and diverse group of fish, I've kept some nice ones myself like Juripari, just not my cup of tea.
My main issue with a forum structure is that valuable information is in there somewhere but can be virtually inaccessible. It is diluted by hundreds or thousands of other posts that have little or no value. Closely related facts can be spread over many threads and forums. Search engines really dont help much. Only a human can pull out these gems of knowledge and collate them into a knowledge base. This web site is particularly big with pages of new threads each day. Pat-on-the-back posts have a place but it would be nice if they would dissappear after a week or something.
Point me to the Cypriniid forum I'm not seeing it.
A monster tank doesnt need to be expensive. My 2,600 US gal timber, liner, acrylic front tank cost about $2000 USD excluding filters. Filters and pumps dont have to be complex or expensive. If I built it again it would take 2 days.
Happy fish keeping. :)

Could you post an example of what you mean? I have no problems finding any information that I am looking for. One you find the thread you want, you can filter the thread or just scan it. Deleting posts would be a touchy issue. Who is to say what is valueable information to the OP? This is an online community and deleting posts would remove that element from the site. There are plenty of sites that will just post information, but very few with such a diverse knowledge base always willing to help out.

I would love to see some pics of this tank, especially built at such a low cost. There might be ideas to spread and share.

Ok to rguther
this is a site for enthusits. if you dont like having trouble finding your info use the search option. We are a group of people who enjoy talking and sharing our fish. we like to show what we got and what the other hobbyists got. YOUR ON MFK!!!!!!!
if it wasnt for those people, talking and showing off our fish, mfk wouldnt be as popular as it is. If you want a new section, ask a mod or post in the other monster fish area. dont open a new thread to wine and freakin complain. these 95% of pat on back posts are enjoyable to those of us who put pics of our fish online. I like looking at what other people have and showing off what i have. And frakly i like it when i post pics of my fish hearing people say stuff like nice fish or cool fish or i like it. It pisses me off when people get on mfk and complain about "pointless posts"! If you dont like the posts then stop looking. Go somewere else were the only posts are purly informative and see how much you enjoy it. This site is for hobbyists to enjoy other hobbyist and to socialise. We do not need people to constantly complain about everything. Im sorry to get upset like this but it ticks me off when i see posts like this. Now i get annoyed at some posts but i like this site. its good and works. The so-called pointless posts(compliments, look at my fish threads, etc) are what makes it so enjoyable. now im gonna stop before i really lose my temper

Not a problem, people like different things.

Search engines, given that you know how to use them properly, help out a lot. I have never had a problem finding specific information this way. Nor did I find it hard to "ask" for specific information.

This is a forum for enthusiasts, not a vault of stored information with "click and go" features (such as Planet Catfish for example). The sooner you learn/understand that, the clearer things will be for you. That being said, the information contained within this website is second to none.

As has been said by myself (as well as others) after your first drunken post, fish that don't fit into a particular category fall under 'Other Monster Fish'. Cyprinids included. It's not a difficult concept.

I guess I am guilty of posting some of those "pat me on the back" threads. I do a lot of work on my tanks as well as spending a good bit of time and money on them. Granted I set up the tanks for my own enjoyment I still like to get a few compliments or constructive criticism from others. My wife, parents, friends, and neighbors really don't know much at all about this hobby. They can tell me that's pretty or that looks like a lot work but that is about it. It's nice to get compliments from people on here. I consider them peers that become a type of friend. Maybe I am just a pathetic person, I don't know.

Another thing about my "pat on the back" posts is that I really hope that they give some people ideas on ways to make their tanks better. Not only does it give me a chance to try to help other people, it provides a good location for me to receive help and advice from other people. I couldn't begin to count how many of my "good ideas" ended up receiving helpful advice on ways to improve it.

As for you not liking cichlids I think that is great, I highly suggest you stay out of the cichlid forum. Personally I have no interests in catfish so to me it only logical to stay out of that section. It actually works out pretty well for me.

I have been around forums for years. You can always tell when someone just wants attention by saying they are leaving. People that really want to leave just close the window and don't come back.

One last thing, I have posted while drinking several times and I have never regretted anything that I posted.

In short, members please, please, please keep posting "pat me on the back" threads. I enjoy the hell out of them and I constantly learn from them.

I think this thread would be much more interesting if we would start adding some pat me on the back type replies. :)
