Convert 29g fresh to 30b reef?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
hey if the guy is that far away then you should probably calculate the amount you would spend in gas to get it, and live rock can be kept in a rubbermaid container filled with seawater and a power head so that just something to think about if you would want to get it now and hold it until everything else is ready but these kinds of deals come online all the time so i would wait until i found something closer to me, what modifyd said about finding local reefer is great advice, most places have a local forum and i know the people on mine were extremely helpful and usually they have a little classifieds area as well

oh and i dont know if this can be used with saltwater but i dont know why it couldnt, you can just go get pool filter sand from pool place or home improvement store and its like dirt cheap, less than $10 for 50lb bag DO NOT use sandbox sand DO NOT the particles in it are too small and seed it with small amount of an established tanks sand like previously said

Be careful with sand from home depot and pools stores, high silica content will fuel algae growth. You can always use starboard and go with a bare bottom tank, the up keep would be alot easier and sand is really only for looks in a reef tank.

There's no groups around me at all, im in jersey and CL is pretty empty, it's kinda sad... I'm getting a T5 30', Hydro 2, and a 55 filter, but i think ill just get dry and some live rocks... as for sand im just gonna get full live sand, i just feel safer...

The sand is your choice but, buy it only for the looks it provides to the tank as it has no other value other than that. Sand is only beneficial when it gets to be a deep sand bed around 5" then when it is old enough it provides de-nitrification. Live sand is a big waste of money just get regular sand for the tank and let it cycle. Do a search on BB tanks and look how successful they are with no sand at all!

Awesome GOOD LUCK anthony and yeah you def want to use at least RO water as you may have algae problems with tap because of the phosphates, oh and just to let you know the emperor 280 i got was REALLY loud so now i have a penguin 350(i think its the one that has 2 biowheels) on my tank and its ALOT quieter (still not silent but ALOT quieter than the emeperor) and that filter would be big enough for your tank and if you put the extension on it it takes in water from the bottom and the middle of the tank :)

Well i cant have anykind of bio-wheel filters bc that would be to much bio filtration seeing ass ill have anywhere from 30-45lbs of live rock...

Anyone know where i can get the cheapest RO water? the store has it for like 50cents a gallon, but the point is that i dont have buckets or even containers to hold that much water -_-

I would save and buy your own RO/DI unit or look for storage containers online to transport the water for you.
