Convict breeding w small male

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i breed two pairs of convicts, and the easiest way to curb their appetite for aggression is to add more decoration to provide hiding places

thanks for the input. I think im jus going to do 3 hours time out for the female. I ordered a malaysian driftwood yet but it hasnt arrived. Btw the males has a little torn tail fin. Any ideas how to cure that?

It should heal on it's own in a few days. When my male was aggro on the female cause she wouldn't breed, he had several of her fins torn up. She was good as new about a week later once he calmed down from adding the other fish.

updates: I return the smallest male. Right now this male is still about 3/4 inch smaller than the female. He hides under my internal filter for most of the day, and the female cant get him there. I feed him hikari cichlid gold. I wet n crush the pellet and holding the crushed food between my fingers and put it right beside the filter n he comes out n eat lol.

I like the advice of taking the female out but you can accomplish the same thing just by chasing the 2 of them around with the net for a bit and rearrange the decor at the same time. Once you're done with the scare tactics, they'll be buddies. Unfortunetly, in this case he's got other tankmates

i'll try that. I dont really care about his tankmates they are more of dithers. I'll do the scare tacticc haha

My only other suggestions would be giving them a few days and see if they chill out, or maybe get a couple other cichlids in there with them. Worked for mine when my male was aggro on the female for not breeding. Reearranged and added 3 JD and 2 Firemouth. Convicts were inseperable buddies from the point the others hit the water.
