wont the cons tear up the tretras?

no the male hides under the filter most of the day. the female waits for the male to come out to beat him, but sometimes she chase the tetra away when it goes too near to her cave.

My only other suggestions would be giving them a few days and see if they chill out, or maybe get a couple other cichlids in there with them. Worked for mine when my male was aggro on the female for not breeding. Reearranged and added 3 JD and 2 Firemouth. Convicts were inseperable buddies from the point the others hit the water.

Its been 5 days. Female is trying to beat the male when he comes out the filter. I caught her cleaning a the rock in her flowerpot with her mouth though. I might get a couple more cichlids, but i dont really wanna do that.

another question. Does anyone feed infusoria to cichlid's fry. I read it in a book. It is rather easy to grow n stuffs. but will they be able to eat it n is it nutritious? When the fry becomes free swimming i will feed crushed hikari cichlid gold too.

Didn't try infusora on my fry this go-round. Been bouncing between Hikari first bites and fresh hatched brine shrimp.

Then whatever they pick off the sponge filters. The fry spend a lot of time by them. :)

Congrats. :) Hard to say when they will lay the first batch of eggs. I had mine for a few weeks before the first batch. Make sure they have a cave or one of those terra cotta flower pots to lay the eggs in. Turning the heat up to 80 or 82 might get them in the mood a little faster, but they will likely spawn at any temp above 72. Eggs will hatch into wigglers in 3 - 6 days, and become free swimming another 3 - 5 days after that. Don't feed the fry until they are free swimming.

I guess it is somewhat common for them to eat the first and maybe second batch of eggs, so keep that in mind. My Convicts didn't, but my Jack Dempseys did. After the first batch, they will probably lay eggs again around 2 weeks after they either eat the eggs or you take the fry away from them.

i finally have a successful spawn lol. They mated about 2 weeks ago... The fry are roaming the tank now lol. Herd around by their parents. I have a internal filter in it. Do i have to block it with net or smth so it doesnt get sucked in?
