convict cichlids?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would strongly advise against adding anything with 4 cons in a 20g. The moment you see spawning behavior between two of them, I also strongly advise getting the other two cons out of the tank. These guys get ROUGH when breeding.

I have a pair that attack me when I do water changes when they spawn.

ok, well i will keep the 4 together until they are a bit bigger, then get rid of whichever 2 dont pair up. nothing else in with them, i think 20g will be big enough for a while, they are only currently 1-2cm

I'd say you will most likely have babies in 1-2 months. That's about the same size mine were when I bought them and I had babies within a month.

I'm not sure. I have normal lights on the 30 and they have descent coloration but the one in my oscar tank looks amazing. That tank has an actinic light and 150w metal halide though. Once they start breeding the females coloration should really show, so just wait till then and see how you like it. If it doesn't look good you can change it up.

i dont have a light in there at the moment at all. just a standard fluorescent tube for my main community tank, am thinking of putting blue moonlighting in that one for nighttime and pink in the convict tank

yeah, you might have to do some research on the pink lights. Metal halide and LED both add a shimmer to your water and bring out colors nicely but are expensive and not really worth it on a convict tank. I'd google it and see what you come up with and maybe just wait for someone elses imput.
