convict has gone weird

I'd second all the other information indicating something irritating the Convict such as Ich, especially if flicking against objects.

As an aside, I've tended to notice that convicts can also shake their head fast and make jerky movements in regards to aggression or sexual maturity, but I'm only adding to the list of possibilites, I would go with the former.

It could be water quality as.the tank has never been tested. How long has the tank been set up and how long have you had the fish. My convict and alot of convict do that from time to time. I believe mediating for something that might not be there is a bad idea. It puts stress on the fish and the balance of the tank. If the water quality is off then your just stacking more problems IMO.

ahh its been going for like 2 years with different fish over time and has never been a problem except an oscar got white spots on his head and we just put medication in and it was all good

Its common for females to lay eggs when they anticipate breeding, I didn`t know men displayed behaviour with no females present. I have never heard of it so thats new to me.

Well you learn something new everyday.
