As of late I have been advocating the idea of a "Convict Paradise". The idea of housing some variety of the Amatitlania family in a lot larger tank than normally given to the species with lots of non cichlids.
I decided to take my own advice and set one up in a 125gal tank. Filtration at the moment is a pair of Aquaclear 110's, also there is a Ehiem 400 air pump and Ehiem heater.
The tank will be low tech planted. Root tabs, Flourish fertilizer, and will have Finnex 24/7 lights, atm its Fluval aquasky led lights.

Beginning stock:
all fish are around an inch in size
Honduran Red Points 2m2f
Firemouth X8
Red Eye tetras X20
Porthole catfish X4
Bushynose pleco X2 Blue eyes albino
Swordtails 3m6f Albino red

They will be feed NLS products from Flakes to Ultra Red, Float, and Algea Max.

This is a FTS of phase 1, next payday I plan on putting more plants, maybe more driftwood. 20190613_092327.jpg
These two seem to be doing the initial steps in pairing up

Problem number one:

It appears that the line breed Albino Red swordtails are a touch sensitive to bright light. They hide out in the couple inches of water at the top of the tank the lights don't cover during the time they are on bright mode. At night when I turn them to blue they swim around.

Was planning on getting a pair of 40b for my room since both 125s are staying in the front, dining room.

May have to get it sooner than planned to move the Albino reds into and get a different Swordtails for the 125.

Looks good so far, I like the dark colour sand.
Always get unexpected problems with a new set up. Fish never seem to cooperate with our expectations.

Everyone looks great. Can’t wait to see how it looks as everyone settles in.
