Convict strange behaviour....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It is truely maddening!

I have one one male con now scared in the 14g, one JD female with him who is going to the LFS today. The female con which is in the 120 is going to be moved tonight to the 14g to keep him company and hopefully build his confidence. As soon as they get bigger I get the fun part of moving them all over again!

Oh, and the female brings the words "quick" and "nimble" to a whole new level! I can see it will mean tearing my entire tank appart!!

The latest update...

JD female has now moved to the LFS.

Male and female con are now in the 14g. She was a pain to catch, i literally had to lift up a whole rock with holes into the net to get her.

Male is hiding under the internal filter and has not moved in HOURS. I'm getting a bit worried about him to be honest. I am hoping now that the female is there he'll feel a bit better and move.

Anything else I can do to help him?? Little guy needs to eat!

I have a convict that is the same way. He comes down from the corner and gets his butt kicked by my salvini female and her mate a green texan. I have a female con in there too, that free swims with the other fish. That male con, probably bit off more then he could chew.

LOL... good to hear I'm not the only one! I thought these guys were meant to be little fighters even at a small age. Seems like I only have timid fish!

But now he's in the 14g with his female and he seems alot better now. Swimming around and having a good time - only hides a bit when I come over.

So far things are good and he's eating :)

Good ta hear he's eating, that's a sure sign that he's over it :grinno:?!

^ Yeah thanks... I'm glad to see they are eating, cannot wait for them to finally get some size on so I can reintroduce them to the main tank.

Ok... Little guy seems to be getting better, but I've figured out why he is so inactive.

He seems to have a bust pectoral fin. I noticed last night that when he swims around he only uses one side.

I'll try to upload some photos tonight when I get home from work, but if anyone has any ideas in the meantime that would be great.

Does anyone know if a damaged pectoral fin (seems to be at the base and not the actual fin) can be healed or is it a likely deformity?

For anyone that has followed the thread, and for those who gave me such great advice I just wanted to inform you that sadly (very sadly) he died yesterday :(

I got home from work and he was at the bottom of the tank gone...
