Anything that can get over 8" may eat or kill your tiger barbs. Best to stay small imo. Also Gold Saums and JD's would be ok if they were the only inhabitants otherwise aggression on you're current stock is more than likely.
Removing the male would probably work. However you've got females who may or may not still lay eggs. But that's no biggie if they don't get fertilzed they get eaten. Otherwise all of the smaller cichlids mentioned would definitely work.
