I saw a breeding pair of convicts in a Fish store that just had babies, Not sure if they're selling. What I want to know is are convicts entertaining fish? Do they have good personalities? Or would I be better off with 2 Oscars? They were quite aggro when I put my finger on the glass, Is that just because they're protecting the fry? Would they do well with clown loaches, A Jack dempsey and a pleco? Thanks

If you get a breeding pair of convicts then they will beat up on the other fish without question. mine used to beat up fish almost twice their size.

Agreed, however it does depend on how big your tank is. If they have enough room they may not harass other fish too much, at least until the fry start moving. I'm assuming this is for your 150g future tank. In that case they should have enough room. If they start migrating you can always divide the tank. Personally I prefer oscars since i feel they have more personality (at least in comparing the oscars and convicts I have owned). Convicts tend to bully whatever fish they can get away with, then hide when that doesnt work, and thats about it.

Thanks, I might go back to the idea of keeping oscars.

Large Oscars are a lot more impressive than convicts. Size matters!

I have a solo male con in a 29g and he is fun, spunky and a mini monster. He can pull off being the main attraction in such a small tank. He would not be able to pull that off in a bigger tank, thats why I have an Oscar in the 210g. If you are aiming for some 'show' in the future big tank, Oscars are the way to go.

I have an Oscar that will let me pet it, and I know other people do too. I've never heard of anybody petting a convict.

i second that, i love my Oscar, he lets me pet him, and i just pick him up using my hands when i need to move him since my nets are too small with no struggle.

In my opinion a oscar is a fish every aquarist must own at some time. he has a lot of interactions with me

Between oscars and convicts, I'd go for the convicts. Imo they're a lot more fun and entertaining to watch and have, and their smaller size means that you can better decorate your tank and have them wander around it messing about. Oscars kinda just swim back and forth and... I dunno, be boring. >.o Imo anyways, but obviously not everybody thinks like me lol. XD
