Convince me NOT to buy this PLEASE

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My male flower went from 11" to 22" in just 18 months before he died. No it was not the so called mystery sudden flower ray death that people like to talk about.
It was the most active fish I have ever kept. therefore I would never dream of putting a 14" flower ray in a 24" wide tank.

I see.
You have a flower in your avatar, just wondering, what is the foot print of your tank now? (I am DEF going to upgrade, weighting my options) Thanks

Ok, yea ive read similar cases with some exceptions. So as I cannot resist (:nilly:) I will see how things work out. If It dosent work then someone on here will get to it.::Fingers crossed:: Its already on massivore so thats a plus... and I LOVE ur avatar man, if i had the money and the balls to recieve a shipped ray I would have jumped on one of ur pups you posted not too long ago

If done right, no different then taking one home from the pet store just a longer trip. The male is always trying to breed so who knows what will happen down the road. A flower on massivore is a plus. I had two 8" ones on pellets then they just stopped eating them for months, then went back to them. They are definitely touch and go. Best advice I can give you is put him in your tank and leave him alone. They do best with no change. Just feed him and enjoy, do not move around, swap rays, or mess with him.

The tank he was in was 8ft by 30" wide by 2ft tall. And It was far too small for the flower by the time he was 15". At that size he touched both sides if the tank. At the time I lost him I had made the decision for him to go to my local aquarium, I wish I had done so earlier.

ok, The guy im getting it from has it in a 155 bow front :irked:

What size/species will the flower be joining? I always push the limits of my tanks, but I have very beefed up filtration and a large volume of drip to go along with it.

On a side note, it's hard to pass up a fat flower eating pellets.

I have a male orb and a female mm/motoro. mm is a beast at only 7" and orb is 10" or so. Im running 2x eheim 2217 and a 2250 eheim with dual bubbler and 2 power heads for circulation. Also ahve added pothos within the last week or so. I do weekly 50% and for the last few water tests (atleast 5) all my levels have been in check I still keep up with the water changes even when tests tell me eveything is good. I like to think I have it under control and have been able to over feed at times and still everything stays in check (i love eheims)

WOW Sam!
That's some growth rate. What was you feeding him on? I have never seen a 20" disc male Flower, obviously they will attain this, I know a couple of guys that keep them but they don't go on sites like this, they haven't got close to this growth rate and have had them for more than 3 years.
I don't go with the sudden death syndrome either but you have to pose the question, where are all the big Flowers? I have kept them in the past but never found them difficult to raise, they were dominant, greedy and on occasion aggressive, facts that have already been pointed out.
