Alright, so here's the deal. The threads I've posted in the past have been somewhat of planning threads for when I'm independently wealthy and have the ability to own what I want. Unfortunately I have at least three more years of school before that occurs, but I'm going insane without some kind of animal to interact with between now and then. Luckily over the summer I get to go home and see my dog again (miss the little bastard very much...), but my parents won't let me take him with me when I get an apartment with my brother next year. So I'm looking for something that would be a good choice for a college student and could deal with apartment living. Here's the criteria:

1. No reptiles - not my requirement, but my brother thinks anything with scales will scare away the girls, and any male who has been to college knows that's a major negative.

2. No dogs or cats. Dogs are a bit too dependent on a routine (letting out, outdoor activity, etc.) for apartment living. Additionally, we'd rather not have a cat - we'll be two single males living in an apartment on our own and having a cat...could send the wrong message to potential female interests...

3. No fish. This should be fairly obvious considering this is posted in the "other exotic pets" part of the forum, but figured it was worth restating.

4. Nothing with a distinct negative odor. Don't want to have to explain the musky/urine smell to guests.

5. Something personable. It needs to be independent enough to thrive with owners who are on a college student's schedule, but we'd still like to interact with it when we have the time, and would like it to be relatively accepting of, again, potential female interests.

6. While not absolutely necessary, something "cute" would be a plus...Again coming back to the whole potential female interests thing...

Any and all suggestions meeting those criteria would be greatly appreciated. Scientific names and photos would be helpful as well. Thank you in advance!

*Note: When I talk about something that can adapt well to a college students schedule, please understand that I fully intend to keep a regular cleaning/maintenance schedule. Just because we might sleep in late every once in a while does not mean we will neglect any animal we get. Any animal that we accept the care and responsibility for will be cared for with diligence.

Frogs
Spiders (Tarantulas)
Scorpions
Birds (Parrots)
Aquarium Shrimps, Snails
Mudskippers
Ant farm
A pet rock :screwy:

I think those are the only ones that fit the bill

tortoise/turtle
(no scales... and I believe girls would find them cute. Just remember to clean the tank often or the smell could put her off)

Birds and frogs are an option. Let's say though that spiders, scorpions and ant farms don't exactly meet the "cute" criteria...

Pignose Turtle ( the nose attracts attention haha)
Green Turtle (yeah they do start to smell if you dont clean the water often)
Chinese Soft shelled turtle (cute lil swimmer)

Don't get a bird unless you want to spend multiple hours a day with them and have a screaming animal for most of the day

IMO your best option is a hedgehog, they are cute, unique, and if you clean their cage there is no odor, plus they make great pets and have a good personality. Ive had a few chicks get excited to see my hedgehog ;)

i know you said no reptiles, but what about a panther chameleon, or pygmy chameleon...
