Don't get a bird unless you want to spend multiple hours a day with them and have a screaming animal for most of the day

IMO your best option is a hedgehog, they are cute, unique, and if you clean their cage there is no odor, plus they make great pets and have a good personality. Ive had a few chicks get excited to see my hedgehog ;)

x2. Birds are high maintenance and most of them live a long time. Even those that are fairly quiet still make quite a mess. Not a good college pet IMO unless you are already an obsessed bird person.

Agree with all other opinions about bird but IF you decided to go that route a well started (already somewhat socialized) Black -headed Caique would be the way to go.

I agree with everything said here. You don't want a bird if you want a low maintenance pet that wont be waking you up in the mornings. Even the caiques and brown headeds will be a handful.

A hedgehog really does seem like a great match for you for the reasons said.

A pet rock :screwy:

I think those are the only ones that fit the bill

the tank often or the smell could put her off)

Lol! Pet rock seems to fit the requirements. Just make sure it's shiny and make sure you wash it ever couple of weeks! They tend go gather a bit of dust

Chinchilla...if you get a young socialized one :). No odor, they can be a little messy and chew on stuff though.

Don't get a bird they can be tough to care for properly even when you don't have a busy schedule. I would get 2 male rabbits ("fixed"). They can entertain each other when you are gone, but will love to sit in your lap when yur home. They are easy to litter box train and can be kept in a cage when you are gone. No offensive odor if you keep their cage clean. You can leash train them. And talk about cute! No girl in the world can resist a cute fluffy bunny! Also easy to find rabbits at rescues/animal shelters....
