I have set up a medium planted 55 gallon tank ment to be set up for Discus but they are not common around here and to order in will cost a fortune. The current fish are in my signature and i could move the cardinals to a 10 gallon and the other 3 fish to my brothers 20 gallon tank.
But anyways what is a cool fish or cool fishes that are cichlids to go into a 55 gallon tank??

Thanks (p.s. I can remove the plants but would be cool if i didnt have to)

Green Terror...don't know if it will be ok with plants or not though. Who needs plants though when you have a big bad GT.

Dwarf pike cichlid.

A breeding colony of Brichardis.....Or.....A pair of Convict Cichlids....Fill the tank with as much plants as you wish....Add a Moss wall that covers the back glass.....Throw in some medium to large rocks.....Crack some planting pots in half and throw them in opposite sides of the tank.....Get a 255w(or larger) light sytem and go crazy on hardy plants....

I would go with a male GT. In my opinion, it is one of the best looking cichlids there are. I currently have an 11" big head Midas in my 72g bowfront. If not for me raising him since a fry, i would've gave him up for a nice GT.

for a single speciman, you can go with a Jack dempsey, or a green terror, if you wanted a community style cichlid tank then you can go with probably 5 or 6 firemouths. firemouths are really nice fish and arent extremely aggressive so you can have a few in the 55g. i dont know how the plants would do with the JD or GT but when i had firemouths they didnt mess with the live or fake plants i had in with them.

id go with a comunity of FMs, i dont like to see individual specimens, id get bored in a room w/ a bunch of plants and no one around to talk to for my whole life.
