Mesonauta Festiva!! Or relatives :)

Ok so 1 JD, 1 convict, 1 Fm for life?

Yes.. that is what i have in my tank right now with a pictus cat.I bought them all at the same age 1 1/2 in and put plenty plants drift wood for hiding places jd is now pushing 6 and firemouth is 4 con about the same.the funny thing is the pictus is the most agressive out of all of them, very territorial of his log.i plan on keeping them there for life, i will keep an eye on the jd way down the road some not alot get big if he does than i will move him out.

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but don't the generic black plecos that most LFS/Chains sell, get to monstrous sizes?

GT or JD are both good candidates. A single male convict or two females can provide for some buddies.

Tunerx is right a common pleco would be a bad idea for a 55 they get real big and the amount of waste they produce is insane.stick with smaller catfish like bristlenose pleco.

go with the big bad GT as balton says
will be a treat to the eyes :popcorn:

Female Festae! They do not usually get larger than 12 inches. Don't get a male...not as pretty and can get 14-16 inches. Here is my 4 year old 11 inch female before I sold her.

I wouldn't get convicts, they'll most likely eat all your plants. At least mine do, even java moss doesn't survive with them. I have 2 10G planted tanks and when my plants need trimming I throw the extras in with the convicts and they are gone before the day is up.

Why don't you try angelfish if you want to have a planted tank?
