few q's: they inject the dye in with a needle and it spreads throughout? how many times does it take usually to color the whole fish? how much does it cost them to do this?
i never knew about this, the only thing i've seen dyed before was from this project in highschool where my teacher somehow injected dye into a chicken embryo and the chicks were different colors, is this the same process in a way? At my LFS, they have a few smaller fish with what appears to be numbers and symbols like hearts on their sides, are these fish going through the same thing?

I don't think it"s cool or cruel. I think it's just plain old stupid.

wow, im shocked at the amount of people who voted cool. Hopefully They just thought the Picture was cool....... I hate blood parrots in general who wants to spend AU$80 on a deformed fish? thats not even naturally occuring. I hope this isnt the future of our hobby.

:barf:I wonder if they'd like to be dipped in acid........

The designs are done by hypodermic needle. The whole fish coloring is acheived by dipping the fish in an acid to remove the protective slime coating, then dipping in dye, then in an irritant to produce the slime again. This color doesn't last and most of the fish with either coloring method usually die within the first year.

if theyre lucky, theyre dipped
most are injected
imagine how many injections takes

I once saw parrots at an LFS that had words written on their sides. One group said "I *insert heart here* U" while another had a big set of red lips on their sides.

I think that dyeing fish is cruel, but the picture is definately cool as **** :P
