Hello everyone,
I just wanted to share information with my Texas Cichlid.
We bought this labeled as Green Texas cichlid, but my gosh
I have never seen such a green colored Texas before and i love
the spotting. Total length is right around 6'' and another thing
I thought was weird there is no hump and he does not turn
the half white half black when breeding can anyone help
me ID this guy? Any input would be appreciated.

Thank you
PS the last pic is of my female Texas that he breeds with and were raising grow outs now.

Doesn't look like a Carpintis to me.

+1 Red Texas!

i agree, red texas.i think when they grown out,not all of them get red,it's like low grade FHs,same idea.they don't all end up with identical traits from whatever the mix was.nice looking fish, the head looks amphilophus.

That's an unfaded red texas. I have 1 that looks identical to yours. From my experience, Ive noticed that red Texas cichlids usually don't have any green dots on the nose area of their face. Carpintis usually have some.

That looks like the Rio Grande cichlid I caught out of the river. Hope you didn't pay much. I could catch a bucket of them in one afternoon...but then again, maybe I caught yet another critter brought by the pet trade and introduced by irresponsible pet owners.

Here is mine, it looks like what y'all call a red Texas. Depending on its mood it can look like the first pictures or the last picture in the OP.

I agree w/ this. H. Cyanos can vary in color-green or a purplish color. It depends where they are collected. Here is a female I had that I got from a reputable breeder.
