Copepods infestation on freshwater tank

Hi guyz,do u ever heard or experience copepods or micro bugs infestation in yr freshwater tank?
and they can happen on saltwater too.
Copepods are tiny crustaceans so they are cousins of crayfish and water fleas!
I read on wikipidia that mosly they are harmless but,for me they are an eye sore,copepos eggs can hatch within 6-7day
and they can bloom,growth rapidly..!!!

Any other seniors face similer problem in the pass or present tank??
my Question is..is there any brands of medication or product that i can find in our local Lfs to get rid of them??

Most breeders would kill for such an infestation. Cyclops in FW tanks serve dual roles of providing food for fry and devouring detritus. In SW tanks, they're a foraging food for many difficult feeding species such as mandarin gobies.
 
whatsoever in there for fish? can you add a betta or something that eats them for a natural solution? that would be my reccomendation, but Im only 24 so idk if i qualify as a senior :screwy:
 
Crawfish eat them. I had a blue crawfish In my mbuna grow out tank and he ate them

so its hard for me to hv small fish to add in my tank ,or they will be a buffer treat for my comm guys.
 
hv u guys heard or try UV light in sump tank before,what i was told that uv light kill bed bacteria n disease,but at the same time they will kill the gd bacteria too..!!??hv u try or heard about it??
 
If UV is setup as a pass-thru part of the filtration's plumbing, it will not kill off your BB in the filter bed. It will kill off most anything that passes through the UV unit including bacteria, fungi, algae, paramecium/amoeboids, and the copepods.
 
You don't say whether or not you have a sump on your system, but adding a few small fish to a sump would take care of many of those critters. I keep fry in my sumps, to eat small food particles that pass threw, they would love the variety.
As Oddball pointed out, the nitrosomonas and nitrobactor beneficial bacteria, are generally sessile, meaning they live on and in substrate, so are unaffected by UV pass thru units.
