Coral spreading ich

Ick cannot survive without fish. Without fish there is no ick. If you knew anything about it you would know that it's a parasite and that a parasite needs a host. Without a host it dies.

Their immune systems seem to be fighting it off very well, I haven't seen any spots for around a week. Just feeding high quality foods soaked in selcon seems to be doing the trick.

@ Athleticfisherman, I think your comments are getting a wee bit hostile, don't you think? Just remember you aren't always right :).

Just a question, and I may be way wrong with this but can ick go dormant when there are no hosts around? That could explain why there is the theory that most SW setups have it and it's just waiting for a chance to breakout.

Marine ich and fw ich are different. "Marine ich" is just a common name.

Ok, first off - name calling won't be tolerated, so cut it out.

Second, crypt (marine ich) can live months (if not years) without hosts when still in the cysts. Removal of the fish will only kill off adult phase crypt. In order to actually kill it all, you'll need to run medications that will kill the coral. Cysts can be found in the substrate, are on pretty much any surface they can get wedged in (like rock or the base of coral).

At this point, you're best bet is to try and fight the crypt population back and increase the abilities of your fish's immune system to keep the rest at bay - find a happy medium.
 
Zoo: I love your tank!!

Back on topic, does anybody know how long Marine Ich (crypt) can survive in pure freshwater? I'm curious if my freshwater dip didn't do the trick due to how brief it is.
