Hey Everybody,

For my B-Day I went to yesterdays expo in white plains. I ended up cming home with a Baby Ultrared Anery Corn Snake. I asked the vendor questions and tips. He gave me his email for any furhter questions or concerns. I researched plenty before I decided on purchasing one.

Does anyone have an adult pic of these corn snake's?
(Vendor tried explaining to me....google pic's gave me lots of other color morphs)

The vendor say's he feeds the one month old corn snakes a pinky every thursday. The pinkies that I bought at another vendor are about half an inch, is still one every thursday good for a foot long baby corn?

The Set Up is so far:

48in x 18in x 18in wooden cage with sliding doors
Reptile Carpet (Any sites for custom carpet sizes?)
1 Hide in Cold Side
1 Hide in Hot Side
1 Grape Vine Tree in the middle of thank
3 Mag naturals
1 Water Bowl

Should I purchased florescent lighting and is their any heat mats or safe heat rocks that I can use?

I asked above about the florescent lighting cause thier are lots of opinions on that especially breeders with rack systems.

Thank You guys, I will try to post a pic of him.....also any recommended handling times of the day and how to? I've been letting him slid on one hand to the next and son on....

Also anyone else went to the expo post reptiles purchased, equipment and set ups would be cool too!

Okay, i do not have a the pic your looking for but im very experienced in snakes.

Feeding your corn snake a pinky every thursday is perfectly fine since its only a foot long.

As for the florescent lighting, its really not needed. A regular basking bulb would do the trick but if you really love your snake get a UVB bulb. It will help your snake absorb calcium without the use of vitamin D3.

To your heating pad and heat rock idea i say NOOOO!!!!!!!!!! you will actually end up burning your snake or killing it. A basking bulb will be sufficient enough.

Now to your handling question what i used to do is I would watch anime on my computer with my snake wrapped around my wrist and she would watch it with me. At first she would struggle with me and try to constantly escape but the more I held her and took her out the less fidgety she became. You could even take it to the movies! I cant do that with my snake now that shes 13ft :(

Anyway I hoped this helped, Good Luck!

Haha, I am using your advice on beardies now, my little guy is perched on my shoulder watching me surf the net lol

Lmfao movies, web surfing like the ideas. THank you for the info, I'll might as well throw in the uv cause I have the fixture already. I'm guessing I'll boost up the basking lamp...how many watts you think should be enough for an 18 inch tall tank?

Thanks Again

Ok after doing more google searches... the corn snake is an Ultramel Anery Corn Snake (On the deli cup I thought ultramel said ultrared.

Is ultramel a real word? All these color morph names they come up with are insane.
I'd call them pink, pinker, pinkest, and so on. But I guess that is boring.
Instead of
blood-snow-arabesque-super-motley-black-muted-ghost-sunglow-blizzard-piebald whatever else they have out there.

Corns are easy snakes to care for, I'd not rely solely on a basking bulb for heat though.

Ok, to Methos im glad that my advice could help you. I do these things with all my reptiles and they are all very sweet creatures with no aggression towards people.
Oh and make sure he does NOT! fall off you onto a hard surfaced floor. It can cause broken bones, death, and internal bleeding (which sometimes takes 3-4 days to kill them). So make sure when your standing and walking that you have a hand ready to catch him just in case. Some of them like to jump so be careful. If you have any questions you can just send me a message or something. And if you want a really cool lizard go with the argentine tegu (gets to be 6 ft) or a columbian tegu (gets to be 3ft). Oh another reason he may not be eating so much is because he could have parasites or mites so get him checked out by a vet when you can and bring a sample of his feces for the vet to examine.

To Pazzoman, you dont really need a UVB though, i only have one for my tegu because my brother decided to drop her on the floor and she broke a limb, so we took her to the vet and found out she had calcium deficiency so my vet said to give her Calcium Gluconate and get a UVB which was $80... If you want your snake to have a UVB then i would get it, I just dont think he needs it. Also I would go with a 50-75 watt bulb, anything higher will burn him. Also if he has a hard time digesting soak him in water for a few hours and he'll be back to normal. Oh and dont use cedar or pine for his bedding. If you also have any questions you can just message me too.

Ok thank you again for the info, also one last question:

Feeding Methods?

I've seen people placing thier snake into another enclosure/box to be fed a meal then minutes after the meal has been swallowed placed back in the original tank.

Can I just use a tong and feed him in the same spot every feeding?

Thank You again,

Lol thanks Richie

Also regarding Richie, the 75watt basking bulb is perfect for that size of a tank. If Pazzo is really worried about heat though, which im not unless its winter, he could always get a 100 watt infrared bulb which would definitely get the job done and you can leave it on 24/7.
