So I have a soft spot for cory cats and am like this close to getting some for my tank: 90 gallon, 1 female gt, 1 female jd, 1 pleco and 6 silver dollars. Everyone gets along great and I got the jd when she was the size of a dime (maybe smaller) and now she is a few inches, catching up on my gt quickly.

What do you guys think the survivabilty would be for a handful of corys?

i have one in with my pike gt and oscar no worries

I feel the way my fish are that it shouldn't be an issue because one thing is for certain: fish might tend to act a certain way but they each have their own personalities which can prove all the trends wrong.

I am just wondering about experiences people may have had. Even my snails last a long time in my tank.

yea mine are pretty chiil with smaller fish

I don't see much of an issue. Just make sure you get some of the larger growing cories.

I've tried corys with africans in the past and it didn't work, but not sure about americans. If you can keep snails, I don't see a problem at all. Get those big grey ones

I love Corys, too. I'd put them in your set up but I sure wouldn't have them with an Oscar like beginneralex14. The day will come when his Cory will end up lodged in the Oscar's throat.
Cory's dart to the top for breaths of air on a regular basis. If the LFS has bigger ones, get those. Teeny baby Cory's might have a problem with the tallness of a 90 g tank.

I have kept cories with GTs, JDs, Oscars, etc. . . . only had a problem once, when I came home and found my 5" GT swimming around with a 1" albino cory sticking out of his mouth

the cory was small enough to put in his mouth, but too big to swallow, so he was just swimming around the tank, looking like you or I would look trying to eat a submarine sandwich in one bite . . . kind of funny, but I didn't want to lose my GT

end of story: I netted the GT, carefully pulled the cory out of his mouth, and to my great surprise, both survived the ordeal

that was the exception; over the years, I've never had another problem keeping cories with CA/SA cichlids

You can't change fish. Put them with something smaller than them that is bite sized, they are going to try and eat it.

Why risk it? There are tons of other cats out there that get large enough to survive. Or you could get some of the larger species of cories. Some do get rather large. LoL

beginneralex14 ~ Mark my words mate, one day you are gonna come home, and your pike is going to have offed all your cories. Just a warning in advance.

I wouldn't do it, especially wit the JD.

Even the other fish might get all the food before the cories do. Don't let cories starve, number 1 mistake.
